
World Services of La Crosse will have the opportunity to host six delegates from Russia through the Open World program in La Crosse. The young "Under 30" delegates will share experiences in accountable governance, community development, and leadership skill building. Homestay and hospitality host volunteers are needed.
World Services of La Crosse will be hosting five Open World judges from Ukraine in Minneapolis / St. Paul, MN with the Minnesota District Federal Court. Homestay and hospitality host volunteers are needed.
The Citizen Diplomacy celebration on March 20th celebrated the contribution of La Crosse volunteers who foster international understanding through hosting international visitors, championing international causes and engaging with others from around the world in a meaningful, mutually beneficial dialogue.
Sponsored by Don and Roxanne Weber, with major support from Midwest Family Broadcasting and support from Mayo Clinic Health System-Franciscan Healthcare, World Services celebrated the efforts of citizens from throughout the region working to promote peace and mutual understanding in countries throughout the world.
Over 150 citizen diplomats attended the recognition event that honored
Dr. Kermit Newcomer as World Services’ Citizen Ambassador of the Year and Marti Schwem as World Services’ Citizen Diplomat of the year.

World Services Ambassador of the Year,
Dr. Kermit Newcomer, is a person who has galvanized citizen diplomacy efforts in this region.
Dr. Newcomer has led the development of significant international programs, encouraged the involvement of others and supported the work of World Services of La Crosse.
World Services Citizen Diplomat of the Year,
Marti Schwem, exemplifies what it means to be a citizen diplomat. Through many years and many personal relationships, Marti Schwem has served as a dedicated volunteer, to help shape foreign relations through one-on-one interactions.
